KEEP AN EYE OUT...

Top fashion designers Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Raeburn have a similar theme spotted in their collections for spring 2013. A ‘traveller’ type theme is evident through Raeburn’s use of the world map printed on silk; much like flight maps printed on silk in the 1950’s to ensure pilots could find their way even in a downpour.

Whilst Raeburn’s collection includes more of a female aviation aspect, Katrantzou has gone that step further, including prints of stamps and banknotes from around the world on her designs. She created a geometric border from the serrated edges of the stamp image that ran down the leg of her slimline trousers, and provided a luxurious pattern for a pantsuit through the twists spirals featured on a banknote.

So could this be a new trend appearing on our horizons? We’ll have to keep a weather eye open.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

White Verve - Thursday, November 22, 2012

At first, the thought of double denim is cringe-worthy, with the image of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s matching denim outfits being the first thing that comes to mind. Don’t fashion books and stylists say double denim is out of the question? Then why is it now being seen on the New York fashion runways as well as the streets?

The answer to that is that designers have found a way to reinvent the double denim look, making it more clean, fresh and modern. Albeit it is a risk to attempt this look as it could easily go wrong, but when done right, the risk will most definitely pay off. Try changing silhouettes and playing with different coloured denim to break up the look if you feel it is all too much.

Fashion is presenting more and more challenging to the safe views of retail shoppers with the frequent introduction of risky and out of the ordinary trends, that when styled correctly, can lead to a stunning and unique sense of fashion.
